Car Makers Look to Increase Revenue with Data

Large car makers are hoping connected-car services will create additional revenue streams in the years to come. Per an article in the WSJ, Ford estimates that monetizing vehicle data could generate up to $100 per vehicle per year in additional value (the article did not explain “value”). In aggregate, the figure is more impressive:

“While it is still early days, McKinsey & Co. estimates monetizing data from connected cars will be worth up to $750 billion by 2030 as more cars are shipped with pre-installed modems and other internet-connected devices.”
